2024 — A New Challenge
A Different Kind of Season
After the incredible achievements of 2022 and 2023,
we decided to take things a little easier in 2024... Or at least, that was the plan.
For the first time since the COVID period, we returned to KCBS competition, taking on a completely different challenge from the SCA competitions we had become so familiar with.
This time, we entered the competition at the request of
five good friends who were working towards their KCBS Master Judge certification.
We brought together everything we had learned throughout our years in competition BBQ,
added some new ideas and techniques, and formed a brand-new team.
We trained, tested, tasted and worked together as a team and on 20–21 April 2024,
it was time to put everything to the test.
Vliegende Hollander BBQ Contest, Terneuzen, Netherlands
The setting was the Vliegende Hollander BBQ Contest in Terneuzen.
With an international field of 23 teams, we knew we were facing a serious challenge.
But what happened next was beyond our expectations:
We became GRAND CHAMPION!
A brand-new team, a different competition format and
a whole lot of BBQ knowledge coming together, and it worked!
Back to SCA Competition
We also returned to the SCA circuit in 2024.
On 22–23 June, we competed at the Riverland Smokers BBQ Contest,
taking on two Steak and three Ancillary categories.
Once again, we came out on top: Grand Champion SCA
Another major achievement in an already remarkable competition career.
Another Trip to Texas
Our 2024 results also earned us both of our Golden Tickets once again,
securing our qualification for the SCA World Championship in Texas, USA.
And there was another milestone to celebrate:
We became Belgian Steak Champions for the fifth time.
Our Belgian Championship titles now span:
2016 · 2021 · 2022 · 2023 · 2024
A New Chapter for European BBQ
But perhaps the most important development of 2024 wasn't a trophy at all.
Together with Tim Van den Berg from The Netherlands,
we brought a new BBQ organization to Europe:
the Rib Cookoff Association
We invested an enormous amount of time,
energy and enthusiasm into getting the organisation established.
By the end of 2024, we had already successfully organized four RCOA competitions.
This marked the beginning of a completely new chapter for us.
We were no longer only certified judges and competition cooks.
We had now also become RCOA Representatives (Reps) helping to organise,
support and develop RCOA BBQ competitions across Europe.
From competing for trophies to helping build the future of competition BBQ in Europe...
Our BBQ journey was entering a whole new phase!
